Chapelfield Gardens is an oasis of calm and tranquillity within the old city walls. It is the regular site for the Lord Mayors Celebration funfair. Well known for the beautiful Spring displays of crocuses and daffodils, it is named because it was once the field of St Mary's Chapel: Chapel Field, now Chapelfield. Earlham Park is a popular destination for walking and recreation. There are 88 acres of open maintained grassland, running down to the River Yare. It is a popular venue for open-air events throughout the year, including Sparks in the Park, the annual bonfire night celebration. Facilities:

Eaton Park is the largest of Norwich's historical parks, it was opened in 1928. In 1998 it was one of three parks which benefited from an extensive refurbishment programme funded by a Heritage Lottery grant. There is a great range of facilities for all members of the family, and a national standard skate park has opened this year.

Heigham Park was opened in 1924, one of the first in the Corporation's program of formal park building which took place after the First World War.

Wensum Park is located beside the River Wensum on Drayton Road, to the north of Norwich City centre. It is one of the formal parks constructed after the First World War. Wensum Park was opened in 1925 and has a beautiful riverside bridge walk along the River Wensum.

Waterloo Park is located between Aylsham Road and Angel Road, to the north of Norwich City centre. It is one of the formal parks constructed after the First World War. It was opened in 1933 and offers several facilities including a large bandstand and pavillion, and boasts one of the longest herbaceous borders in the UK. There are facilities for tennis, putting, bowls, children’s play area, large paddling-pool, bandstand and Pavilion.

Sloughbottom Park is located on Hellesdon Hall Road. It is one of several parks around Norwich which were constructed during the 1920s and 1930s. The park is home to Sloughbottom Park BMX Track which opened in November 2005 and is open to all free of charge.

The Jenny Lind Park is located on Vauxhall Street and has recently re-opened after a £300,000 make-over. Local residents and pupils at the nearby Bignold School were consulted over the plans, and all the opinions were combined to create the new park. The park now offers multi-use sport pitches and new planting and path-ways. The play area includes tall slides and a boat and cradle swing.

Castle Gardens can be found in the area surrounding Norwich Castle in the city centre, part of the area is in the original castle ditch. Here, during the summer, you can see free theatrical performances at the open-air Whiffler Theatre as part of the ‘Theatre in the Park’ programme. Castle Green lies next to the castle, on top of The Mall shopping centre and provides great views of the city.

The Plantation Garden is a tranquil Victorian garden just a few hundred yards from the city centre, located on Earlham Road. It was established 140 years ago in a 3 acre abandoned chalk quarry. After the Second World War the garden was virtually abandoned. Fortunately, much of the structure survived, and is gradually being restored by the The Plantation Garden Preservation Trust, which is almost entirely run by volunteers. Facilities:

The exotic Garden is about 1 acre in size and is home to many exotic varieties of plants which would not have been able to survive in this part of the UK just a few decades ago, but with global warming, the winters in Norfolk are far warmer than they used to be. The garden was purchased in July 1982 by Will Giles who has a particular interest in exotic plants.

Mousehold Heath is located in north east Norwich. It is an area of nearly 200 acres of heathland and woodland now mostly covered by broad-leaf semi-natural woodland, although some areas of heath remain and are actively managed by Norwich City Council. There is a range of wildlife including common woodland birds as well as lizards, butterflies, dragonflies and small mammals.
